I heard about this from a few people above me so I just spent half the time studying UWorld medicine questions and the other half doing surgery questions.Just took the surgery COMAT yesterday. Definitely try to get through UW Pulm/CC/Cardiology if you haven't yet. There just aren't that many surgery questions and the surgery shelf is very medicine heavy. DeVirgilio's is case files on steroids for surgery. I never got anything out of case files but DeVirgilio got me a 90% or something on the surgery shelf.Fluid and Nutrition. Maintenance IVFs D51/2NS + 20KCl (if peeing) Up to 10kg s 100mL/kg/day. Next 10 kgs 50mL/kg/day. All above 20 20mL/kg/day. Enteral Feeds are best keep gut mucosa in tact and prevent bacterial translocation. TPN is indicated if gut can’t absorb nutrients 2/2 physical or fxnal loss.Fluid and Nutrition. Shelf exams are where med students in their MS3 taking clinical rotations get examined and assessed of their mastery and practical application of medical knowledge within the actual clinical setting..
