Spinning application
Melt spinning is the most economical process of spinning due to the fact that no solvent is recovered or evaporated just like in solution spinning, and the spinning rate is fairly high. Melt spinning is the preferred method of fabricating polymeric fibers and is used extensively in the textile industry. Fig. 1.5 shows a schematic of the melt-spinning process.Centrifugal spinning lacks the application of a direct electric field which could otherwise limit choice in the case of charge-absent polymers (Ahmed et al., 2018). Compared to electrospinning, more viscous polymers can be used to make fibers, as highly viscous solutions lead to problems such as needle clogging (Wang et al., 2012 ).
