When I try to roll the driver side window up, if I hold the switch to roll it up, as soon as it gets to the top it goes back down. If the windows rolled down and I just pull the switch up and then let go, 50% of the time it goes all the ... If there was rain the day before and a lot of (road) spray etc, although it's unusual, it's possible that ice formed on the linkage and that can prevent the motor from running. (I agree that there should be some sign of the motor trying.) There could also be a problem with the wiper switch that's temperature sensitive.
