If you want to move here, Id strongly recommend visiting in the winter to see if your family likes it. I struggle myself cause I go to work in the dark and leave in the dark. Missoula's spring is usually 2 or 3 weeks ah IMO the best resort skiing nearby is Lost Trail (best terrain, least crowded, cheapest). There's decent BC all over but it depends on how much you want to skin and whether or not you want sled access. Lolo Pass, the Bitterroots, The Missions, are all good options. Lost Trail is a real gem of a small affordable area.Not yet anyway.
