the answer to this is pretty simple; hosting fees. they hit something like 70k concurrent players this last playtest. that's probably tens of thousands of dollars per week in hosting fees. it costs like $50/month just to have a server hosted on most games that supports 30 people. the game isn't out, and no one has paid for it yet.It seems like this will still be a regular part of the Dark and Darker experience for the foreseeable future.
