Answer 1 of 12: Ok I just read more stories and posts about the crime in Cancun and to be honest I am feeling scared about going rather than excited... sounds like even the resorts are not safe. If you see police what do you do? are they all corrupt? is the best... The Royal Playa del Carmen is a beautiful hotel but the town of Playa del Carmen is much less lively than that of Cancun. I have stayed at both. Cancun is more of a "city" atmosphere and you don't get much of a feel of what Mexico is. Playa del Carmen is much calmer and tends to be less people. The beaches there are just as beautiful. …
